Luton 2 vs Aston Villa 0..Do Pre Season Friendlies Mean Anything?

weighing-it-upShould We Take Note?

Should we take any notice of pre season friendly matches. If you ask a hundred Villa fans I would say it would be about 50 50. Villa have had five pre season friendly matches so far, we’ve drawn four and lost one, with the lose coming against Luton away from home.

Twitter was awash with comments like, “its about the fitness, the score means nothing, I don’t care one bit that we lost its only a friendly” If your in the other camp and think that they do mean something, there were also comments like, “winning breeds winning, good performances builds confidence, playing badly is not good for morale” Just for the record I’m in the friendlies do mean something camp. 1. Of course it bloody matters. Even if it is about fitness, if you’re a good player, you can STILL win games. If you had a team of Messis who weren’t fit, they’d still win their games. Although, in aston villas case, we can’t really judge them just yet because I believe we have 9 niggles in the squad for players who are very important– by the Malaga game, we should be 100 percent winning our games.

  2. Friendlies are just to get players ready and fit for new season of cause players want to win every game they play but ain’t going to happen specially with the players we have been playing in the last 2 friendlies anyway so get to grips boys stop moaning & let’s just get on with it come on you villans !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. Just like clouds above me I think they matter to. I’m sure Paul Lambert says to his players before they go out play, Don’t worry about loosing to this none league side because it means absolutely nothing its just about your fitness. Boll**ks he does, I’m sure he wants them to win all the time. I’m not getting worried about the latest friendly results, I’m just a bit concerned. So hopefully with our remanding friendlies we can put in good performances with wins and a clean sheet to boot.
