Its Time To Stop Now
I went to the Aston Villa vs Malaga match today and I was looking forward to a great time. I was hoping to see if I could get an angle on the potential starting line up for next weeks match at Arsenal. As the Villa goals were being knocked in, I never even considered the tribute to Stan Petrov on the 19th minute, that we Villans and most of the away supporters gave him week in and week out last season, and rightfully so. So I was a little surprised to see it revived for this match especially when Stan himself asked for the tribute to come to an end.
By continuing the tribute, we run the risk of weakening the support that we showed him and we don’t want that. Also opposing fans could see it as Villa fan’s wallowing in self pity, and we all know how cruel fans can get when they get fed up with something. Remember the vile chant the Manchester United fans gave the tribute last season when it meant something, I’m not going to repeat it just incase you missed it, but we all heard it loud and clear where I was sitting.
So yes it needs to stop, and just because we don’t continue with tribute anymore, (hopefully), it doesn’t mean we don’t care for Stiliyan. He will always be close to our hearts and us to his, and he knows it. UTV
