Stoke City vs Aston Villa

Stoke vs Aston Villa 2Stoke vs Aston Villa

With the dire performance against Manchester United just about fading away from my mind, its time for The Villa to hit the road with a short trip up the M6 to the Britannia stadium and play Stoke. With our current performances home and away, I’m not that confident we’re gonna get a point, let alone 3 against The Potters.

Its hard not to back your own side, no matter who you play, but the performances of our team lately make it hard to predict a win or a draw, even against the teams at the lower end of the Premiership table.

I think I’m slowly waking up to the fact that Villa are no longer a Big Club, in the sense of buying top players and paying them a wage packet that would keep up with the so called bid boys. So coming to terms with this fact, I’m gonna have to accept that we’re having to shop in the bargain basement for players, and accept their performances (which are not very good) that they serve us up. That doesn’t mean I’m not going to sound off when we loose through bad team selection (Paul Lambert) or bad player performances (The Squad).

So for Saturdays match against Stoke City I can’t see us getting a win or a draw. So you know what that means, don’t you? Yes thats right, I think we’re going to loose (it makes me feel so bad to say), and thats only because the evidence thats I’ve already seen this season, but I hope I’m wrong. UTV

  1. I am with you on this one. It can hit you hard when realize that your club is no longer one of the premier big boys, but we certainly are not now in that category.

There has been times this season when I have actually been ashamed by the performances that this squad of players have put on. Lambert said after the Southampton game that “Stats don’t win games”. No! they don’t, but they give you a hell of a indication as to whether or not there is something fundamentally wrong with the way you are performing. I think it is only the Cardiff game where we have actually had more possession than any other team.

Benteke is still our leading scorer & he has not scored for over 9 games. We have the lowest goals scored @ home in all four divisions. We are clueless when it comes to playing @ home. Any team could beat us @ home.

I have been a big supporter of Paul Lambert but I now believe the time is fast approaching for him to do the honorable thing & resign. Who would take over? who knows AVB maybe.

    • I almost with you Terry. I’m not quite ready to give up on Lambert yet, but I need to see improvement from his team. And if he was to go, I wouldn’t want to see AVB anywhere near our club.

  2. We have gone from being a big club to a average championship club at times some of our performances this season have been very very poor but that’s down 2 injuries & poor player selection from the manager with such a little squad we have anyway isn’t going to do us any good for rest of season unless we buy a creative midfielder or loan 1 plus a couple more old heads in there 2 help the kids out but im confident we will get a result v’s scfc come on you lions let’s roar !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
