What a rollercoaster of a football match that was yesterday. After the full-time whistle, I couldn’t wait to write down what I had just experienced. For those final twelve minutes, my mind was all over the place. I hadn’t quite taken in what I had just witnessed, and because of that, I didn’t give enough credit to the Villa players who had put us two goals ahead with only minutes remaining.
Ollie Watkins was at his very best. The determination and desire were there for all to see. Two fantastic goals in the first half set the tone, and he could easily have had a hat-trick if he hadn’t been taken off on eighty minutes. It hasn’t been his best season, so to see him finding form again, putting in a performance like that and getting on the scoresheet was brilliant to watch. Well done, Ollie.

Morgan Rogers, for most of the match, was excellent. He has been on a bit of a drought, but now has goals in back-to-back games. It shows what a goal can do for confidence. After scoring against Bologna, he came into this one with real desire, and it showed. His goal yesterday was a reminder of the quality he has.

John McGinn, or should I say, Super John McGinn. Outstanding. He didn’t score, but that’s not everything. Everything good about our performance while he was on the pitch was because of him. Agree 100% McGinn should not have been taken off and Sancho should not have come on, also although Barkley had a decent game he clearly ran out of steam and he should have been replaced much sooner Buendia looked dangerous when he came on, and one final comment Digne should have played from the start, what a ball to Tammy Abraham and what a finish, 3 points in the bag so onwards and upwards
