Home Form Is Becoming A Problem!!!

villa tot 1Aston Villa 0 vs Tottenham 2

Like I said in my last post, if we were to get anything thing on Saturday then we needed Benteke to start from the beginning, not to come off the bench as a sub. As far as the match is concerned, I thought Spurs were slightly better than us and only in parts, two critical parts! I think when Tottenham can sign a player like Eric Lamela for 30 million, which is pretty much near what we paid for our entire squad, then we have to accept the fact that we’re more likely to loose matches, especially when it’s a close game against sides that spend big. Spending Big = Quality, simple arithmetic.

Our Home Form Is Becoming A Problem

I wonder what the stats are for our home form over the last few years, I don’t have the stats at hand, but it feels like we loose more at home than we do when we’re on our travels. I don’t know what the answer is to turning around this worrying problem, we not only loose or draw to top sides but its the same with clubs who are on a par or who we think  beneath us. What happened to fortress Villa Park?

God help us Saturday against Everton!!!

Just watching Crystal Palace vs Fulham there is a chap playing for Fulham up front, I’m sure we 24 million for him, wonder when we’ll fork out money like that for a player again?

  1. Home form a problem, it has been a problem for 3 seasons. We are clueless. Harsh? No it is the truth. We have only one style of playing, & that is counter attacking.

You can not be a counter attacking side @ home you have to have a different game plan. Villa just have not got one. We have got a possession rate of something like 41-42%. That is disgusting for any team.

We are probably the most predictable in the premier league. As much as I like Paul Lambert, I don’t know if he has the nouse to get the team playing in a different manner, & he may well have took the club as far as he can.

I am disappointed in some of the signings that we have made. Tonev & Kozak would benefit from minutes with the reserves.

I can’t understand the situation with Lowton. Last season, first name on team sheet. This year sometimes not in squad. The defense is in need of a massive shake up. Our defensive record is pitiful. Still have not found a regular back four. Midfield gets overrun on too many occasions. Again like defense nothing settled. Apart from Delph very disappointing.

Unless we find a different style of play @ home, a very long winter awaits.

How about tying up a deal with a club like Ajax & learn from their methods??

    • Strong comment Terry!! But to be honest I couldn’t have put it better myself. There isn’t any part of your comment I disagree with. Let’s hope the management at The Villa get to grips with our worrying home form. UTV

  2. its well documented we rely on our counter attacking either with gabbys pace or more direct to benteke which is great when you play away and teams are going to have a go at you but when we are at home the onis is on us to have a go and put them under pressure I don’t think we have worked that out yet , im not suggesting that was the case sunday I thought spurs were better but when the smaller clubs come to villa park and park the bus we will struggle

  3. Home Form has been a problem for many, many years:
    2013-2014: Won 1 / Lost 4
    2012-2013: Won 5 / Lost 9 / Drew 5
    2011-2012: Won 4 / Lost 8 / Drew 7
    2010-2011: Won 8 / Lost 4 / Drew 7
    2009-2010: Won 8 / Lost 3 / Drew 8
    2008-2009: Won 7 / Lost 3 / Drew 9
    2007-2008: Won 10 / Lost 6 / Drew 3
    2006-2007: Won 7 / Lost 4 / Drew 8
    2005-2006: Won 6 / Lost 7 / Drew 6
    2004-2005: Won 8 / Lost 5 / Drew 6
    2003-2004: Won 9 / Lost 4 / Drew 6
    2002-2003: Won 11 / Lost 6 / Drew 2
    2001-2002: Won 8 / Lost 4 / Drew 7

So since 2001 we have only won over half our home games in 2 seasons (It’s interesting to note that in the season we won the most games (11 in 2002-2003) we were only 3 points off relegation).

Even in our good seasons we only seem to win 8 home games on average.

It’s been a long, long time since we were able to call Villa Park a fortress.
