Aston Villa’s Youth Club

aston villa kidsI like the fact that Paul Lambert has been doing his recruitment of Villa players early. And it seems The Villa Faithful are happy with this to. It give the fans a real sense of optimism for the forth coming season. Just tune into Twitter and see when ever there is a new signing, what excitement it brings.

So how many have we signed so far? I think thats five now. Aleksandar Tonev (23), Leandro Bacuna (21), Jores Okore (20), Nicklas Helenius (22) and Antonio Luna (22). And you now something, they look ok, if Youtube video is anything to go by. But there’s an old saying, The proof of the pudding is in the eating.

Yes, The proof of the pudding is in the eating. Never a truer word spoken, is there. And why for this line I’m taking, Well, prior to the 2013/14 Premiership fixture being released, I got a sense from Villa fans, that the players we had already signed up until that point, that they were going to be the answer to all our problems, that we’ve had to endured over the last three seasons.

And then, it was like a Thunderbolt of Realisation, Yes, the 2013/14 fixtures came out, and we can see the first hand full of matches we’ve got at the start of the season, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool, just to name a few. And then, the amount of negative comment on Twitter. Comments like, Nice easy start then eh?!!, The fixture list is not very kind. What!!! Come on guys, we’re Aston Villa and we should never be scared of anyone, Right!!! Yes there were some positive comments to, but not many.

So why the concern, from The Villa Faithful, I think its maybe because the lack of men (older heads, a 28+) we have in the side. You know, an older head that can see when something’s not going right, when someone needs to be pulled up, for not putting a shift in, and someone for giving out praise, a pat on the back when deserved, which can mean so much to a youngster.

So come on Paul get that cheque book out, and give us a Cherry on The Cake sixth signing, (someone with an older head) that will really get The Villa Faithful going, and keep The Young Villa Lions on the straight a narrow.

  1. Paul Lambert & all the coaching staff r the only experience we wil get in at Aston villa he dnt like nothin else apart frm young talent actually playing the game which wil put us in gud stead without a doubt playing wil bring experience in all of em i really can’t wait 4 our season 2 start its going 2 b tough but enjoyment at the same time come on u villans!!!!

    • You know your points of view are very good, but it takes me along time to read and understand what you are saying. So could you please tone down on your text writing, and write properly, it’s easier to understand. And as far as the youngsters in the side i think I would edge towards batfastards point of view. If they’re good enough then they’re old enough. UTV

  2. I agreed to what you are saying Glenn until the last 7-8 games of last season then our young lions stood up and roared and really put in some great performances when the pressure was on . Its not a matter of age its about whether you are good enough . in saying that if I could wish for one more realistic signing this season it would be Joleon Lescott playing along side Vlarr , a villa fan a Quinton lad like myself think he would fit in perfectly

    • I think the points you and AVDAZ make Batfastard are good. It might not be a matter of age, its if they are good enough. And I know playing time will give them experience, good points from both of you. But I think we could still do with an older head or two.

  3. it is my opinion, having seen these signings, that Lambert is too stubborn to admit that he even needs an older head in the team. Having taken criticism I believe that he has become so entrenched that he has lost sight of whatever his original vision for the team was.

I will admit that these players cut an impressive promo on Youtube but can this be trusted? These types of videos are all edited together by fans of the player and usually cherry pick the best moments from multiple seasons. This doesn’t give a balanced picture of the ability of the player, far from it. A quick search on Youtube throws up a multitude of classy finishes by none other than Emile Heskey, and who can forget the 35 yard screamer from Cameron Jerome in 2009. Furthermore it can even be argued that the videos on the villa players are less indicative still of the quality of said players because most, if not all, of them were scored in lesser leagues.

In summary I will just leave you with my prediction that while these players may provide you with the odd upset against a big team or two next season you will be bullied by the more experienced teams and will play, once again, without any form of consistency. Definitely a bottom half finish and I think you will be involved in a relegation fight once again.
