Dr Xia’s Tweets Don’t Do It For Me

tweetsI don’t know how I really feel about Mr Xia and his tweets at the moment. Some people might see it as something that’s quite unique, a chance to put the odd question to our new owner and hopefully get some insight into how our club is trying to move forward.

Aston Villa have rightfully found themselves in the Championship, the situation our club finds itself in, is one of a serious nature! I’m not in the mood for gimmicks and misdirection, I want to see that the people who are running our club, are taking this predicament seriously.

Tweets with words like, “we’ll get there,” mixed in with, “Be patient and everything is under control” do absolutely nothing for me, I’m sorry to say! I want to see tweets like, “Welcome To Our Football Club,” accompanied with the picture of a new player with the kind of quality that can get us out of this league.

I don’t want to be a party pooper or anything like that, but if things start to go bad on the pitch, I don’t think Tony will be replying to many tweets! Villa fans can be quite vicious at times, even if things are going quite well.

Nah, these tweets don’t do it for me! To me, it seems like someone’s having a lot of fun at the moment, it’s a new toy, and I get it! I guess I’ve always felt like there was some kind of special aura around Aston Villa, and when the people at the top spoke, it kind of fitted into that perception I had. Maybe I’m turning into an old codger!

    • lets be honest Villa fans are professional whingers, nothing any one does will ever be right for some of them, I get sick of hearing how great the fans are, in my opinion they are probably the most critical, unrealistic and unsupportive in the country.

  1. I think you are jumping the gun. Yes, maybe Dr Xia tweeting may dry up if things don’t go well in the season BUT, give the guy a chance. This is a brave move or experiment on the part of the owner and as far as I am concerned long may it continue. Let’s face it Twitter doesn’t exactly give enough character space to say more than a snippet her or there but at least he trying to communicate with the fan base, which is a lot more than Lerner did for most of his tenure.

Dr Xia seems to have the beginnings of some very sensible plans, such as setting up academies and perhaps feeder clubs in countries like India and China. Growing our brand so we might be able in the future compete with the big boys. By all means moan in the future if and when there is something of substance to moan about but preseason doesn’t mean it is also time for
    Pre-moaning!

  2. Completely agree with this! It’s all very well trying to bond with the fans, but the best way of doing that is to build a successful team, on and off the pitch.

I think it could quickly become an embarrassment to the club too – he’s writing some rather random, cryptic nonsense if late, much like I’d expect from a hormonal teenager! I also don’t think he should be commenting on the playing staff at all – that’s Roberto’s domain, even if they’re both agreed on what’s being said.

If he’s going to tweet, keep it concise, make it informative, and avoid commenting on the players!

After all that’s happened, I would rather we didn’t become a laughing stock because of strange tweets coming from our owner.

    Cheers

    Tom
