Didn’t We Do Well: Stoke City 0-1 Aston Villa

stoke vs villa1The first 15 minutes of the match were slow for Aston Villa but once we blew those cobwebs away, Villa competed evenly against Stoke, there’s an argument to say that we were the better side for the rest of the match.

The debutants played very well for Villa; Senderos and Cissokho (Cissokho being my Man of the Match) were awesome at the back, Richardson played well without being noticed and Jack Grealish came on after 71 minutes. Even though Alan Hutton wasn’t on debut, it felt like it was his first start for the Villa and what a game he had, makes you wonder why he was frozen out last season.

In fact the back four for Aston Villa looked big and strong with Ron Vlaar keeping a tight ship, shouting and telling players all around him if they weren’t doing their defensive duties correctly. The defence looked unbeatable today, so for this reason it should not be changed. With the likes of Okore looking to get into the starting lineup, he and any other defender should only get their chance through injury or bad form.

The winner came in the second half when Weimann scored with a low drive to the left which deflected off the goalkeeper’s legs into the goal, the Villa fans went wild with their celebrations and from that moment onwards, I knew we was going to win. Villa should have had a second goal when Delph played a ball from the right to the unmarked Bacuna who shot wildly over the goal, you’ve got to put chances like that away or at the minimum, get it on target.

Maybe Paul Lambert might bring in a couple more players before the transfer window closes, for me, his number one priority should be to offer a load of money to Vlaar and get him signed up for the next four seasons, it would be such a shame if we were to lose him.

All in all, I’m one happy Villan tonight; the drive down from the Potteries was an enjoyable one. I don’t know about you but I’m not going to keep my feet on the ground, I’m going to enjoy every last minute of this win until our next match. UTV

  2. I thought our defence was top class today.

Winning sides are built on a good defence which is why PL must persuade Vlaar to stay.
