Benteke’s Red Card Cost Villa The Match: Aston Villa 1-2 Tottenham

red cardIt doesn’t matter which way people try to look at the Benteke sending off, it was his red card that lost us the game. If Benteke hadn’t raised his hands, he would’ve stayed on the pitch, he might have even scored Villa another goal, but he was sent from the pitch and Spurs picked up 2 goals and they won the game!!!

As Benteke was walking from the pitch, Villa fans were clapping him, why? Spurs were there for the taking today, and apart from an Adebayor one on one in the first half which Guzan saved brilliantly, I don’t think that Spurs would’ve gotten back in the match, and the Spurs travelling support know it.

Yes, we should get behind our players, but you can’t defend a red card that I believe cost us the match today. Usually if a player gets sent off needlessly, he would have some explaining to do in the dressing room after the match. I hope he apologised to each and every player in that dressing room, including the management.

Some or most of you might not agree with me today and that’s up to you, but nothing is going to change my mind on this one. How good it would’ve been if we could’ve gone into our next match against West Ham with a morale-boosting win and Benteke leading the line. Now, Villa has lost their star striker for 3 matches and our team has been weakened, and whose fault is that? UTV

  1. Thought it was a better performance than the last few games and Spurs looked poor but we still only had 1 shot on target before benteke got sent off and it’s worrying how we can’t seem to put games to bed. If we had been more clinical and scored more spurs wouldn’t have had a chance to get back into it after the sending off

  2. Very depressing results yesterday. Nzog and Benteke looked good and Gabi was a complete waste of space. I know Weimann/NZog were knackered but Gabi and Richardson did not work hard enough so felt we were playing with less than 10 at end.

Btw, I am I the only one who doesn’t see how Mason gets away without punishment. Pause out 17second mark on the from this clip and ask yourself what you would do if some head their face in yours:

    • It wasn’t a headbutt. So no, Mason didn’t deserve to get sent off. By the letter of the law, Benteke was the only player who is guilty of violent conduct in that incident. The fact that he got clapped off after letting down his team is laughable.

Apparently it isn’t the letter of law (according to 606 last night). Guess it is a question of how you interpret violent conduct. Don’t think anyone was at risk of injury by that episode of handbags (unlike Vertongen’s two footed tackle minutes earlier) – but IMO Mason initiated it by banging to Benteke from behind before the face off (if someone put their head in my face I would push them away.- almost reflex action.

Don’t imagine I have convinced you, though 🙂

  3. No such thing as letter of the law – otherwise you wouldn’t need judges, arbitration panels &c &c. All about the reaction to some dildo putting his face in yours – not worthy of a red ‘un, end of. Prior to which, as you can see, CB has already been barged in the back off the ball, and then clipped by “Mason”. Referee is the villain in this, followed by “Mason”. Same old cocknees,

  4. Losing Benteke for three matches is going to hit Villa hard. West Ham southhampton and burnley are all going to gain from the loss of benteke. As soon as Benteke got sent off I just knew we were going to lose. It’s getting depressing talking about villa all the time.

  5. I Havant felt this low about villa since the o’dreary days I really fear the worse this season , lambert has to go and the one man who could galvanise us and save us is pullis before you say long ball merchant take a look at a few videos of crystal palace last year
