Tottenham Are The New Old Aston Villa
Villa’s form in the league stinks at the moment; every Villa fan knows this. We’ve made wholesale changes to the squad, and it’s going to take a long time for these players to bed in.
But is there something that could accelerate Villa’s race back to form? Yes, there is: Tottenham Hotspur at 12:30 on Saturday afternoon.
Spurs are the new old Aston Villa. You’re puzzled, aren’t you?
Spurs are the new old Aston Villa, and here’s why.
For years, Villa fans watched us propel sides towards Premier League titles, Leicester City, revive struggling teams and turn around the fortunes of clubs that looked completely lost. It would change their season and usually ruin ours.
It must be said that we were rubbish a lot of the time when this happened, but nonetheless, sides such as Manchester United would always be pleased to see Aston Villa coming up on the fixture list if they were having a rough spell, because they knew they’d probably beat us and gain a huge confidence boost from it.
But now, clubs going through a bad run of form aren’t looking for Aston Villa on the fixture list. They’re looking for Tottenham.
Years ago, if a team was struggling, they’d be hoping Villa were up next. These days, every club having a difficult time is checking to see when they’re playing Spurs.
We’re having a bad time ourselves at the moment, thank God it’s Spurs this coming Saturday.
After our opening game of the season, I feared we were heading for a run of bad form. One of the first things I did was look at the fixture list to see when we were playing Tottenham.
When I saw it was this Saturday, I thought, “Thank God for that.”
This is the day Tottenham do an Aston Villa. We get the away win. Spurs get the misery. Villa get their season started. God knows what happens to Tottenham. UTV
