Isn’t it amazing what a win can do for your spirits as an Aston Villa supporter?
Just as we’ve finished celebrating our first win of the season, we’ve got to do it all over again tomorrow afternoon in the Premier League.
Villa earned a hard-fought victory in Belgium on Tuesday evening. Going into the match, the vast majority of Villans were worried about the outcome, but what we got was a fine result and a very good performance. More importantly, it gave the players and supporters something they desperately needed, belief.
Football moves quickly, though. There isn’t much time to celebrate because Nottingham Forest arrive at Villa Park tomorrow, and they’ll provide another test.
Personally, I hope Villa take the confidence gained from Tuesday night and put in a convincing performance. The first few weeks of the season have been difficult, but perhaps that Champions League win was the moment that got us up and running.
As always, all eyes will be on Emery’s starting line-up when it’s released. If he sticks with the team that performed so well in Belgium, I doubt there will be too many complaints. Then again, this is Aston Villa, and we all know there’ll probably be a mini meltdown on social media no matter who is selected, that’s football.
What matters most is that Villa build on Tuesday’s performance and continue moving in the right direction.
