The Villa Win Against Freiburg Was Anything But Drab, Mr McCoist

I was listening to talkSPORT the day after our victory in Turkey, and Ally McCoist, who I think is a decent pundit, gave an overall fair assessment of Aston Villa’s performance, apart from one small thing.

I got the impression McCoist rather reluctantly used the word “drab” to describe the game before the first goal was scored. This is not me digging him out, because his praise for Villa overall was more than fair. But drab? I didn’t see it that way at all.

I would actually be interested to know what neutral fans thought of the match before our first goal. Personally, I saw it as a chess match between two sides trying to work each other out.

It is easy in hindsight to say Villa had the game won once the first goal went in, especially considering how we took control after that. But the last thing this Villa side was ever going to do in a European final was become complacent.

Maybe you have to support the club involved to see it as something other than drab. UTV
