Liverpool Got Lucky, One Silly Mistake, One Deflection, and Liverpool Escape Again

After watching Villa last night against Liverpool, of course I wanted to win, and I genuinely thought we had a good chance to. Still, I’m not too disheartened by the result, because other than one very silly mistake and a wicked deflection, I honestly believe we could have won that match.

I’m not going to give a blow-by-blow account of what happened, everyone’s seen the game or the highlights, but I do want to mention a few Villa players who stood out for me.

I thought Onana was immense, he was everywhere, defending when needed, breaking up Liverpool’s rhythm, and trying to drive us forward. One small criticism, he didn’t need to get into a wrestling match with Mac Allister at every corner, which eventually earned him a yellow card.

I also thought Morgan Rogers had a decent game, his best moments came in the first half, when he had two really good chances to score. We need to find ways to get him on the ball more often, because he’s one of our most creative players and can make the difference in tight games.

Overall, while the result was frustrating, there was plenty to take encouragement from. We went to Anfield, held our own for long spells, and on another night might have come away with something. If we can cut out the sloppy moments and make better use of our attacking spells, there’s every reason to stay positive about where we’re heading. UTV
