How I Almost Jinxed Villa’s Fantastic Demolition Over Liverpool

So we’ve secured a Champions League spot for next season after a heart-pounding night against Liverpool at Villa Park.

As soon as the starting line-up was released an hour before kick-off, we all knew Villa would be playing on the front foot, and personally, I believe that is the way we should always play. Our players suit that style far more.

We certainly did not have it all our own way though. Liverpool have always given us tough games over the years at Villa Park. But after ninety minutes, plus what felt like an eternity of added time, Villa came out on top with a 4-2 win.

The funny thing is, when John McGinn scored on eighty-nine minutes to put us 4-1 up, I got so excited that I posted on X saying we had qualified for the Champions League.

Then I saw there were eight minutes added on at the end, and Liverpool scored almost immediately. At that point I started thinking, “Please tell me I haven’t gone and jinxed this.”

Thankfully, that did not happen.

Before our final league game of the season, we now have a Europa League final to look forward to on Wednesday evening in Istanbul. Everyone connected to Villa is looking forward to that one, and I will save my thoughts on it for a dedicated pre match blog post.

But for now, well done lads for last night. It has been a rollercoaster of a league season, and honestly, I am glad to have experienced it all as a Villa fan. UTV
