When Roy Keane Was Playing Awful For Manchester United, He Was Just Like A Pub Football Player

The title of my post sounds really stupid, doesn’t it? Because it is. Back when Roy Keane was playing football, it seemed like he rarely had a bad game, but did that mean he ever played like a pub player?

Is the same true for McGinn? Has McGinn ever played that badly, that he was reduced to being a pub player?

Roy Keane has become a prominent pundit since he retired from playing the game professionally. I don’t know whether he’s given up on management, but when he did both, his game was on the edge, with a hint of violence, his comments were controversial, stupid and completely unfathomable at times.

Keane was a very successful football player from Ireland. Paying first for Nottingham Forest when he arrived in England. But it was at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson where he really made his name as a fine football player.

Keane played for the Republic of Ireland for many years, most of that time as captain. I can’t remember whether Keane was sent home, or if he walked out on the team from the World Cup in 2002 after a fallout with national coach Mick McCarthy. Either way, it shows that Keane is a controversial character.

Anyone that regularly watches John McGinn knows that his performances are quite consistent. Roy Keane says that when he is having “one of his bad days,” “when he’s awful,” he’s just like a pub player. Maybe he’s just being controversial for his views.

But for me, Keane is talking complete and utter rubbish.

For me, Keane would have had to watch an awful lot of McGinn to make a statement like that. I don’t think he has. I think it was a gut reaction rather than an opinion backed up by evidence.

So you tell me, Villa fans, can you ever remember a time when McGinn played like a pub football player? Because if you can, then you can bet that Roy Keane was there making mental notes. UTV

  1. Sorry, I have tried to listen to Keane as a pundit, his hostile rebukes, his opinion is the only one,but this on a super John is just down right disrespectful. True legend super John. Fantastic performances. Drags us through games sometimes and his goals this season have been priceless. Keane was a great player in his day, but as a manager/coach and pundit he’s a twat and i am done with him.UTV😀👍💜💙
