Aston Villa wrapped up a deserved 2–1 win over Burnley at Villa Park yesterday afternoon — a much-improved performance and one that felt close to perfect, barring a couple of frustrating moments.
The only real blemishes were the soft goal we gave away from a corner and Buendia’s injury, which looked a worry at first. Thankfully, Emery’s said he should be fine, so fingers crossed it’s nothing serious.
For the most part, Villa looked back in control. The tempo was sharper, the movement more confident, and there was a clear sense of purpose about the performance. Burnley had a late spell pushing for an equaliser, which made things a bit tense towards the end, but overall we were good value for the win.
We really should have made it more comfortable though. The chances were there — we just didn’t make enough of them. It didn’t cost us this time, but it’s one of those details that still needs tightening up.
Donyell Malen was the standout Villa player by a mile. His best game in a Villa shirt, without question. Two goals, both taken brilliantly, with the second showing real class and technique. That’s exactly the kind of quality we’ve been hoping to see from him, and it’s starting to shine through.
Once again, credit to Emery. The team’s recovery over the past few weeks says everything about the mentality he’s built here. Even when the pressure’s been on, he’s stayed calm, kept his approach steady, and it’s paying off.
Another win, another step in the right direction. Villa go into the international break with confidence restored and momentum building — exactly what we needed. UTV
