I saw an image on social media comparing net spend over the last three years. Arsenal at €471m. Manchester City at €422m. Manchester United at €453m. And then there was us, Aston Villa, sitting at just €48m. It genuinely got me thinking, what could be if we were really able to spend.
When you watch Villa now, when you see how we’ve competed and imposed ourselves this season, it shows we belong in the conversation at the top end of the table, and that makes me proud.
It is a reminder that smart recruitment, coaching, structure and belief can sometimes narrow the financial gap. We are not making up the numbers. We are matching clubs who have spent ten times as much.
Considering the gap in spend, what we are doing is impressive. I could be negative in this little post, but hopefully we can continue to perform for a little while longer. UTV
