The Referee Should Have Stopped It In The First: Aston Villa 2-1 WBA

av vs wbaWow, we needed that, 3 points, out of the relegation zone, a 3-goal thriller with a last-minute winner in the derby, what more do you want! But I’d rather have won it without the drama; when Benteke scored the winner, I celebrated so hard I thought I was going to have a heart attack!

It all started with a Gabriel Agbonlahor goal; in a first half where Villa could have been 3 to 4 goals up before the ref blew the whistle for the end off the first. We had 2 efforts cleared of the line, and one of them should have been a penalty, Delph struck a magnificent shot that stuck the post. If this match had been officiated by a boxing referee, then he would have had to stop the contest, as WBA were taking one hell of a beating!

When we came out for the second half with only a one-goal lead, a few of us said, we hope those missed chances don’t come back to haunt us, and then they went and scored a goal to level the match, un flipping real!!! It would have been a travesty of justice if the Baggies had gone on to scored another goal and win it. Even if the match had remained a draw, I’m sorry, but the Baggies didn’t even deserve a point. But I will give them 10 out of 10 for their set pieces, but that’s all they had.

The match was settled from a set piece, a penalty to Villa, taken and scored by Benteke to win the match. Benteke didn’t have his best match, in fact, he’s looked a little out of sorts for some time, but hopefully his winner will give him some much-needed confidence, as we need the Big Man firing on all cylinders for our forth coming matches.

I thought N’Zogbia was having a great match, as was many Villa players last night, and I believe he should have stayed on the pitch. Grealish was the man to replace Charlie, and I felt we lost some forward momentum when the young lad came on, but he’ll have his day, I just think it’s not the right time for him. The Alan Hutton incident was a mole hill made into a mountain, the Scot got his foot stuck into the, ur humm, Tackle, and received an unfair yellow card and now we’ve lost him for 2 matches, unlucky Al.
