Ron Vlaar, Southampton And Stoke vs Aston Villa

avfc123I’ll be flying off to America on Thursday, so I’m going to write about a few things on my mind at the moment.

Ron Vlaar

If we lose Ron Vlaar to Manchester United or any other so called top club, then we’ve only got ourselves to blame. Vlaar’s contract should never have been allowed to get down to one year remaining. Ron had an amazing world cup and his heroics haven’t gone unnoticed, and he knows it!

Vlaar has been quoted on Twitter and Fox New saying, “Soon I’m going with my agent to the table and then we will go through the various options.” Well I don’t know about you, but me, he’s got one option! You sign an improved contract or you see out your remaining year, unless we get a ridiculous offer for him but I really would like him to stay.

Southampton

I know this is a Villa blog but you’ve got to feel a little for the Southampton fans when all their quality players are being sold, don’t you? How on earth are you meant to build a good football club when the players you developed want to leave? Villa has had this problem since about 1998, when Dwight Yorke begged Doug Ellis in his kitchen, to let him go to Manchester United. Past Villa players like, Southgate, Ehiogu, Barry and Downing just to name a few, manufactured despicable ways of leaving Villa to chase their dreams, they make me sick!!!

At least the players that did leave us, done so over various seasons and not in one go! Southampton could really struggle this season and this will be down to their mass exodus. Martin O’Neill tried to put a stop to this when he was at the Villa but Lerner overruled MON and went ahead and sold Milner to Man City, which was the straw that broke O’Neill’s back and he duly left us. Nothing is going to change unless the people that run our clubs start to get tough with these want away players.

Stoke City vs Aston Villa

Villa go to Stoke and play them on the 16th of August, the day after I come back from America and I think we can beat them. We’ve had a good start to our pre season fixtures with 3 out of 3 wins so far. With the likes of Bent, Hutton, and N’Zogbia back in the squad and a few additions added, including Roy Keane, I think spirits might actually be up! Hopefully we can continue with our good pre season form and take it to Stoke and come away with a win. I don’t see why we can’t beat them, with the help of the Villa faithful behind our team, I back us to get our first 3 points in the Potteries. UTV

  1. Getting Vlaar on a improved contract should be villa’s number 1 priority. If we lose him then we’ve only got Lambert to blame. Just another long line of inept management.

I don’t share your confiden in beating Stoke. I think the knives could be out if we start the way we left off against Spurs.

A draw at the most for me against Stoke.

  2. Anyone expecting Vlaar to suddenly play as well for Villa as he did for Holland in the World Cup is, with respect, nuts. Back at Villa he won’t be surrounded with world class players or have an inspirational manager. It makes an enormous difference, as we all saw.

  3. Delph also needs a new contract pronto.

I’m confident this year, we have almost a full team of decent ‘new’ players compared to who played last year:

    Hutton, Senderos, Okore, Richardson
    N’Zogbia, Cole, Gardner, Grealish
    Bent

Benteke didn’t play much last year, neither did Kozak, neither did Lowton. Missing from the above list is Vlaar, Delph, Wiemann, Gabby, Westwood, Bennett, Clark, Baker, Bacuna, Tonev, any new youths, any new signings, etc.

If the ‘new’ ones had all been new signings everyone would be absolutely buzzing.

  4. I think everybody is getting over excited concerning vlaars World Cup words like amazing are well ott , solid and reliable are more a realistic discription in saying that he should of been given a new contract before the World Cup after an excellent season for the villa after a dodgy first season , contracts mean nothing nowadays even if he had signed before the World Cup and man United came in for him they still would get him if the player wanted to go the only difference Is we can demand More money with a longer contract, hope he stays vlaar, Delph and benteke are the spine of the team , but please Southampton and Stoke why would he want to make a backward step like that….have a good time Glenn across the pond and don’t forget my stick of rock

  5. I am with you on this one. I would like Ron to stay but I just cant see it. His national team manager has just took over a club, which has just lost its two centre backs. It does not take rocket science to work out, that after the world cup he had & the fact that United are desperate for centre backs that a move will be manufactured for him & hopefully we can cash in with a large transfer fee.

We lost last night @ league one Chesterfield, but in fairness it was mostly our academy side. Bluenoses are making the most of it though.

Stoke away would be one that if we are looking to better last term, we need to be finishing above these teams. Will we get a result? on last term I would say not.

However this is a new season, lets be positive & say yes. I will go forr a extremely hard fought 2-1 win.
