Richardson Cost Us The Game Today: West Bromwich Albion 1-0 Aston Villa

red cardI really thought we were going to win today. Since we beat Leicester last week I’d wound myself up into a wonderful frenzied state believing that we wouldn’t lose, and then there was that tackle on 22 minutes! Why on earth would you go in on a player that far up the pitch and risk getting booked? But he made that tackle and got a red card.

Would it have made a difference to the result if Richardson hadn’t been sent off? Well, I belive if Richardson hadn’t been sent from the field of play, we still could of won. Ok, the first 22 minutes both sides couldn’t find their stride and even though they won it eventually, I never felt like they were a real threat for the entire 90 minutes. So for me, Richardson was the reason why we lost the match today.

Then you might ask the question; should Richardson have been in the starting line-up in the first place? I was happy with the 11 that started the match today, but with the red card that Richardson got and out of form N’Zogbia showing no signs of an upturn in his game, maybe Lambert should of started with Delph, and who could of replaced Charlie for the start of the match? But hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Pity we couldn’t have nicked a point today. Once we went to 10 men, I thought we still could of got something out of the match, but it wasn’t to be. And once the match ended, I felt really gutted!!! I must of got about 20 missed calls from friends who support the Baggies wanting to give me stick, but I also got a text message from one friend thanking the Villa fans for respecting the 1 minute Justice For Jeff Campaign tribute on 9 minutes. Never mind, we pick ourselves up and go again, where have I heard that one before. UTV

  1. You have ‘hit the nail on the head’, Richardson should not have been in the starting line-up! Grealish did well last week so why on earth did they not start with him. Lambert seems to pick his pets and Richardson is one of them! I would have played Gealish and Delph and left out Richardson and Nzogbia!

3 more points we could have earned! All down to you again Lambert wrong team and poor selections!

  2. Lambert , Cost us the game by picking out of form players .
Grealish delph should have been in and Richardson and nzogbia
Out,tactically Lambert is useless. Even ex eng manager! G Taylor
Said he was baffled by Lamberts tactics on wm radio.now it’s
Utd and swansea, sunderland . How long must this carry on
It’s woeful, boring, he’s a disgrace total crap.

  3. We got what we deserved from that unacceptable performance. Absolutely nothing.

O.K., playing with ten men for the majority of the game is a hardship, but playing with a man short doesn’t excuse the remaining players inability to pass a ball from ‘a’ to ‘b’, and find a claret and blue shirt. It doesn’t excuse a lack of ideas or creativity, nor does it excuse the failure to test Ben Foster throughout the game.

We were up against a very poor Albion team, yet we didn’t have anywhere near enough about us to ensure that their disappointing recent run continued.

Bright spots? Well they were very few and far between weren’t they, almost non-existent. Alan Hutton had another competent game I thought, while Jores Okore continues to thrive and prosper. Good to see Delph back too, hopefully he’ll still be a Villan come February 1st.

Otherwise, another depressing offering, a performance that just leaves you feeling flat, disillusioned and depressed.

Oh well, Manchester United up next. That’s always an easy three points!

    • 9 new players a new manager mate against the mighty villa who are 2 places above us ohhh and are gettin 30k a week in englands 2nd biggest city. And there local rivals are the blues get about 15k. Wakey wakey

  4. First of all, if you intend to run, or even write on a blog, start learning English! “pity we couldn’t have nicked it”??? The correct way to write this would have been “pity we couldn’t nick it”! Then there is the absolute disgrace to the english language by consequently using the term “of” when there should be “have”, for example “I thought we still could of got something out of the match”. Pathetic. Don’t you have schools in Birmingham?
I am not English, I have never lived in an english-speaking country, yet my understanding of, and not the least, respect for the language is greater than most west-midlanders, apparently.

When it comes to the match, and the result, you got what you deserved. I haven’t seen Villa play a good match since the 2-2 draw at Anfield last season. Even though you have had a couple of good results lately, I still hold you as favourites to go down, and might I add, no one would miss you!!!
    Good riddance

  5. Kenny, would you like to join WBA supporters club? 🙂

As for the match sending off, it was clearly a key point as it’s hard to say how it would have gone otherwise. Albion were again very laboured with no ideas or confidence.

Villa seemed happy to be deep in their half passing the ball between the back 4 and goalkeeper. I just didn’t understand the short goal kick routines, against someone decent you would have been in big trouble.

I expect us both to be in the relegation mix come April/May
