People Are Just Not Happy: Aston Villa 1-0 Blackpool

Villa vs BlackpoolIt wasn’t pretty but thank God for Christian Benteke’s scoring that winning goal at the end of the match today. You’ve got to call it like you see it, and what I saw was a Villa side unable to breakdown a Blackpool defence that’s wallowing at the bottom of the Championship. Yes, Villa’s possession stats have gone up lately, but where are we holding possession? Not in the oppositions half where we should be hurting teams.

For me, that goal will go a long way in helping Villa out when we play Leicester City on Saturday, but we go into the match as underdogs. If we win, I’ll be absolutely amazed. Funnily enough, our last win in the League was against the very side we’re playing on Saturday, but because we don’t score enough goals you can forget about us repeating that feat, but I don’t think we’ll lose, even though the Foxes have found a little form.

When the second half ended, there was booing that rang out at Villa Park, I’m sure you all know how I feel about booing. But just before Benteke scored his winning goal, there were chants calling for Lambert to leave, and they were very loud. They started from the Holte End and radiated out to other areas of our football stadium; I haven’t got a problem with this kind of protest, as it’s not directed at our players. But it’s quite clear that people are fed up, and unless there is some kind of miraculous turn around in Villa’s all round performances, then I think the calls for Lambert’s head will continue.

  1. The tides, finally turned, unless there is an input
Of real quality players in . Then lerner will have
To remove Lambert. It clearly isn’t working under
Lambert, the next three results will finally send villa
Back into the relegation zone .The falling attendances
    Say it all.

    • I was at the game yesterday and the dross backwards and sideways football that I had to watch was mind numbing.
“We only want one goal” rang out across the stadium and yes “Lambert out” was indeed a song that rang out as well.
After yesterdays game and the 320 mile round trip, I left feeling sad for the way our great club has been run into the ground. No I haven’t been to all the games this year but talking to some of the crowd that had told me not to expect much.
Yes I was one of the fans who shouted and sang but when I travel and pay to get in I at least want to see dynamic football and a good score line against a team that is adrift at the foot of the Championship.
I love my club and always will but something needs to change and change quick as the 21,000 there on Sunday had to endure, what I can only describe as no more than League two football (No disrespect to League two teams)

  2. I am totally fed up with all these so called fans calling for Lamberts head, He has had a very limited budget but has still managed to find some cracking players, Okore, Sanchez, Westwood, Benteke, Vlaar, He re signed Guzan all of this on peanuts.
YES i know the football is hard to watch at times and I for one would love us to play attractive football, but that does not guarantee staying in the premiership.
There is no manager around who could do a better job on the budget Villa give.
All the problems come from Lerner, So stop booing Lambert otherwise he might walk, then we are certainties to go down.
All you so called fans with super dooper knowledge of football wanted Scholskar, but look what happened to Cardiff who were playing attractive football.
What Im saying is have a go at Leaner, he is the one holding the purse strings, look at the reported budget for this January £8 mill which also has to include wages!!!!!!

Yes we all want good football, but having a go at Lambert is not the answer, How do you think the players feel when this happens, it certainly does not give a message that the fans are supporting the team.

Dire football or not, we are supposed to be Villa SUPPORTERS, so lets support our glorious team.
We have one of the best Defences in the premiership this season, (best outside the top 4) all you moaners were going on how crap our defence was last season, so Lamberts done something about it, so wheres the praise for that!!! oh yes all the moaners forget the good and just moan about the bad.

SUPPORT THE TEAM, – not your own bloody ego’s.

  3. P Lambert is delusional. Why can he not see what all the fans see. He might be a very nice man but he’s not a Premiership manager. He is out of his depth and he should accept that fact and leave the club whilst there is still a club left.

  4. Some interesting comments particularly about supporting the club, I for one consider myself a loyal supporter but even the most loyal of us must be dismayed about the lack of vision by the Management team. Surely as a business man Mr. Lerner must be aware that he is treading a tightrope if he continues to under finance a business project such as Villa. Investment at this crucial point in the season is not so much speculative as an essential injection of resources to establish some confidence. Discounting Vlaar and Delph I believe that we have a good nucleus of players who provide a bedrock on which we can build, whether you believe that Paul Lambert is the man to be entrusted with this task is a different matter but it may be more harmful to the cause to change the manager at this point. I do not believe that Mr Lambert does not see the teams shortcomings or that he does not intend to address them in the current transfer window, but the financial constraints placed upon him by Mr Lerner will surely determine what he can achieve. I think his compliance to be a yes man to Mr. Lerner and to agree to trying to achieve against all odds have seriously damaged Paul Lamberts reputation, we all need a job but at what cost, I would prefer to retain my self respect.
