It Was Joe Cole That Made The Difference: Burnley 1-1 Aston Villa

joe coleDriving up to Burnley was quite a nice little drive. It was cold and grey in Birmingham and the further north we got the sunny it was getting. We got to Burnley Cricket Club 2 hours before kick off and the Villa faithful were in full swing in the pavilion. We joined in the drinking and chanting and the scene was set.

The team sheet was released and Joe Cole was in the starting line up. The inclusion of Joe made all the difference to the Villa performance. Suddenly we had a driving cutting edge, creativity and he added a goal too boot! Joe was just that kind of player that Aston Villa has needed for the past god knows how many years. But we all knew he would come off eventually due to a lack of game time fitness, and we all know who’s to blame for that!!!

Lambert said: “The big plus was Joe Cole with the way he played – I thought he was outstanding. He was exceptional. I thought he was a massive plus and it was a great goal he scored. He’s getting fitter and fitter with every passing week. He has a great enthusiasm for the game of football for a guy who has won everything in the game. His performance today was outstanding.”

We’re now 3½ months into the season; you should have played him sooner Ya Flipping Doughnut!!! He might even have been fit enough to have stayed on the pitch for the full 90 minutes and win us the game, but he had to come off because the lad was knackered! It was Cole that made the difference in performance and the result. We don’t need a Stat Pack kindly given us on the Villa website to see how the game went! You need to do one on the manager if you need stats to show you what all the Villa fans instinctively know about Lambert. UTV

  1. Two successive games villopian tube, don’t forget we drew at Upton Park 0-0 to start this wonderful three game unbeaten run.

Agreed, Joe Cole enjoyed a fine sixty minutes or so yesterday. He really looked the part, a class above. Hopefully he’ll be fit and firing for Crystal Palace on Tuesday evening. We’ll need another good performance from him, in fact we are going to need a run of top performances from him in the weeks and months ahead.

    • Ah yes, I’d blanked out the ‘Big Point’ from the W.ham game.
What’s the betting Joe Cole is back on the bench tuesday night?

  2. Ermmm west ham 0-0 mate so make that two games in a row. All im saying is we are not conceding left right and centre but still should keep strong for the 90 and with benteke back next game and joe cole giving the same kind of performance goals will come and hopefully them extra 2 points aswell!
