Cleverley And Hutton Bright Sparks & Lambert Under Pressure: Everton 3-0 Aston Villa

under-pressureThe first half like the rest of the match was a non-starter for me. I tweeted at the end of the second half, that the midfield was ineffective (apart from Cleverley) and that we were lucky to go into the break just one goal down. Someone came back at me, he thought I was harsh with my summary, he felt that we were in the game and one goal was as much as Everton could have expected, I didn’t agree with him.

If the first half was a non-starter, then god knows what the second half was. Everton scored at the start of the second and you could be forgiven for saying that the match was over with 48 minutes gone. I truly can’t remember the last time when Villa came back from going a goal down?

Two Villa players can hold their heads up high today, Hutton and Cleverly. Cleverley worked tirelessly in the midfield and Hutton showed more attacking threat than the players who should be attacking, which prompted a fellow Villa fan to say to me, “Lambert ought to put Hutton in the midfield,” it’s the frustration that causes fans to want unrealistic changes to the team, he was quite serious!

There are people out there who are way past breaking point and want Lambert out; I’m not one of them at the moment. Our good start to the season was attributed to Roy Keane’s arrival at our club, so now we’ve lost 4 on the bounce; I guess Lambert is going to take the blame. Lambert needs to get it right for our next match against QPR a week Monday, because nothing but a win with a good performance will do for me.

It just goes to show how much we missed Fabian Delph today and God help us if he was to leave in January or at the end of the season, which is more than likely going to happen. It was clear to me that Benteke wasn’t 100% fit, it might have paid Lambert to bring him on as a sub late on in the game, we can’t pin all our hopes on this kid. UTV

  1. Its going to be a long hard winter by the look of it. We still have 3 players in this team who simply aren’t good enough for the Premier League and lack an inspirational skipper who will lift up players when heads drop. We just don’t have that. I cannot remembers a team that has so many serious injuries and none of them in a match. Benteke, Kozak, Delph all in training Nzogbia on holiday, players injured in the pre match kick about and players struck down by bugs, where’s it going to end for Gods sake,
