Brendan Rodgers Left Red-Faced: Liverpool 0-1 Aston Villa

Lv vs Av 101I didn’t think we would lose today, I didn’t think we’d win either, so as you can imagine, I’m over the moon with the result today. Villa is becoming a thorn in the side of Liverpool football club at Anfield, and in the last 4 years, we’ve beaten them twice and drawn 2; it should have been 3 wins if the ref hadn’t fallen for the tricks of Suárez last year.

Gabby was the man who provided the goal, which was headed by Senderos from a Westwood corner; the striker scuffed the ball into the net, which turned out to be the winner.

I really do believe that we could have scored more goals in this game. I felt we were the better attacking side when we decided to go on the offensive. It was a very good defensive display by the Villa but I think we shouldn’t make a habit of sitting back when we take the lead, unless we’re 2 or 3 goals up in the game. I don’t mean to sound negative, I just believe we’re a really good attacking side and that can be a good form of defence.

Nathan Baker got the Man Of The Match award today and he deserved it. To step into the big mans shoes (Vlaar) and then give a performance like he did, was awesome!!! With a minute to go in the first half, Baker put in a magnificent sliding block, which if it had gotten through, could have ended in a goal for Liverpool.

I was really pleased for Baker, as he was at the end of a lot of stick from the Villa faithful on twitter; everyone is entitled to their opinion but only if it’s constructive in my opinion. He might be a man mountain but he’s still a young lad, he needs to feel the support of the Villa Faithful, as I believe he might read some of these comments. So, come on guys, let’s be gentler with our views on some of the Villa players.

There shouldn’t be one Villan out there, player or fan that shouldn’t keep their feet on the ground after a result like that, enjoy all of it, I going to! UTV

  1. Great Result for Villa. We (Liverpool fans) were worried about this game, as you have recently caused us problems by playing well above your usual standards at Anfield, and you did so again. Liverpool were poor and quite slow with their ball movement, but I still felt Villa defended exceptionally well, and scrambled a messy goal from some poor set piece defending). But I think the writer of this article needs to be realistic. If Villa played an open attacking game for the rest of the 90 minutes, there’s a much higher chance of Liverpool getting in behind and probably putting 4-5 past the keeper than Villa doing that to Liverpool. Paul Lambert got his tactics spot on by parking the bus, and if you can go and do that to other teams regularly, you’ve a good chance of staying in the premiership. Good luck! A Liverpool fan.
