Aston Villa’s Virus Will Not Be An Excuse Against Chelsea

no excusesLast year when we faced Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, Villa was on the end of a gallant defeat. Villa had beaten Arsenal three days earlier with a confidence boosting 1-3 away win, so going into that match, I was pretty confident that we could get a result if not a win. The ref missed blatant decisions, which could have helped us avoid that defeat, something that was a recurring theme amongst most the refs that officiated at Stamford Bridge last season, remember when WBA got robbed out of a win!

Going into Saturdays match against Chelsea, I’m not so confident that we’ll get anything out of the match, even though we’ve had a good start to the season. The virus that hit the Villa squad may have contributed to our first loss last week, but I don’t want any excuses of illness if we’re at the end of a defeat on Saturday. I expect a good performance from the Villa, and if we do perform, you won’t hear me complain about the end result.

Villa need to try and be a little more offensive, to allow the opposition the majority of the possession, will bring a lot of pressure on the Villa goal. When we played Liverpool a few weeks back, I thought that we looked the better attacking side; the problem is we didn’t attack enough. We need to try and be a little more offensive against Chelsea. To go to Stamford Bridge and only defend could end in a big defeat, so the midfield need to concentrate on trying to attack a little more and let the defence do their job when they’re required. 1. draw, would be a fine result.only hope
Lambert has his tactical brain engaged,
Because regardless of our good start, the
Stats do not make good reading, how in
Gods name this man deserves a four year
Contract still beggars belief. Under a decent
Chairman he’d be gone already. Lerner no wonder
    We’ve. Gone backwards, and downwards.

  2. we’ve got no chance of getting anything out of saturdays match. When you compare the budget of Chelsea to our’s then the best we can hope for is the occasional win, like we did last season at villa park. I don’t want us just sit back the entire match, but I think thats our only option, maybe we can nick a goal on the break to give us something to cheer about but thats about it. I honestly believe that the bug which has swept through the villa team will affect our performance as it did against arsenal so the sooner we’re all back fighting fit the better.

  3. Villa played 2 blinding matches against Chelsea last season. Even though it was a shit season for Villa we manage to win at Villa Park. Super Fabian Delph scored an absolute fabulous goal and got my man of the match award but I think we’re pissing in the wind if we think we’re going to get anything from this match.

  4. BEING OFFENSIVE!! Now wouldn’t that be a treat for us Villa supporters. I am right with you here, if we try & just ‘park the bus’ against our next couple of opponents we will get absolutely mullered.

There is no weight of expectation for the next couple of fixtures, so why not have a real go for it. The Midfield really need to come to the fore over these games & get the forwards really going. We have got to create chance after chance, that is the only way you can play against the top sides, by being OFFENSIVE!.

So Mr Lambert, it is simple, 100 MPH football required from all outfield players, get our possession stats up above the opponents for a change. We can’t keep winning games by being defensive, we be OFFENSIVE.
