Aston Villa vs Liverpool And The 8-Minute Demonstration

Villa-v-LiverpoolVilla play Liverpool tomorrow, and if we’re going to predict the outcome of this match, then going by past results when we’ve played the Reds at home, it doesn’t look too good for us. Along with our current goal scoring record, I can’t see anything other than a Liverpool win, and that’s all I’ve got to say about the match.

The 8-Minute Demonstration

Living life as a Villa fan has been more than a labour of love for a lot of Villa fans over the last 5 years. Some say it started when Randy Lerner came to the club 8 years ago, and they’ve got a point. When Randy was splashing the cash (which I’m sure he’s recouped) for the first couple of years, we all thought our Christmas’s had come at once, but with the past 5 or 6 years of incompetence, those first couple of years have been wiped out.

It’s now got that desperate that 3 Villa blogs, A Villa Fan, My Old Man Said and The Villa Blog have got together to write an open letter to the Holte End, and asked them not to attend the first 8 minutes of the match as a demonstration for the way in which our club has been run under the Lerner era. The open letter has gained national exposure in all the different types of media outlets, so if the demonstration isn’t a total success, it doesn’t matter, as it’s had a big effect already.

I sit in the Trinity stand of Villa Park, and to show my support for this demonstration, I won’t be taking my seat for the first 8 minutes too. Let’s hope that all fans will be respected as to whether they take part or not, it’s not a picket line and you shouldn’t be treated as a scab if you cross it; to those who don’t take their seats, they shouldn’t be seen as anything other than loyal fans who have just had enough. Good luck to the Villa team and the demo tomorrow. UTV

  1. Something radical has to happen to force any sort of change with Lerner and his mute chief executive Tom Fox. How do you think this will pan out if we all accepted the worst the way you do. Lerner must think just sit tight these idiots will accept anything, though I don’t think he is of bad intent just hopelessly incompetent.

Paul Lambert will have to leave as things have gone too far now and as our fight is with him and not the team so this has to happen as quickly as possible, you are just in denial taking this weak minded position.

Lambert has created a whole era of” worsts” in our history and is clearly out of his depth at a club of this stature.

God help us if everyone thought like you – tough love over the next few weeks it
    will be hard.

Certainly if we lose/draw with Bournemouth that will signal the end of this awful manger.Trust Mr Fox ( if he indeed exists ?) will take local advice on the replacement, hopefully from someone with a UK football background

  2. Like a lot of Villa fans our family history of supporting this great club goes back many decades. I can fully understand the protest and think it has good merits. This next statement is hard to say but if you really want to make a stand then don’t renew season tickets, don’t purchase FA Cup or spend money on merchandise. I know clubs have TV monies but there is a point to empty stadiums. I honestly can’t see us renewing for next season, its seriously to upsetting to watch and bear. The worst part of the whole situation is that over the years I’ve seen worst Villa squads perform better! This Villa squad is better than its league position. We could point at injuries and red cards but these are self inflicted with players becoming frustrated with style of play. The Villa new signing will be interesting, he is instinctively an attacking midfielder, will that flourish and prove the answer or will Lambo save the day and change that philosophy to sideways, defensive football. It was interesting to read that Lambo telephoned Carlos Sanchez for advice on the new midfielder, I only wish Lambo would telephone me and explain the fascination of N’ zogbia, if ever there’s a reason to vacate a seat!!!

  3. Great publicity for the bloggers at the detriment of the team. Protest after or before the game like we did for mcliesh. Support the team for 90+ minutes, distractions off the pitch during the game will lead to distractions on the pitch… our backs are against the wall already let’s not help scousepool by not supporting the team!
